2eaOranges, sliced thin
1bottleRed wine - I prefer Spanish wines for this, but it is to your taste
Combine the water and sugar and make a simple syrup in a large stock pot. Throw in the whole spices and bring the syrup to a gentle boil. Boil it for a few minutes. Remove from heat, add the sliced oranges, and let it sit for awhile.
Add the wine to the simple syrup mixture and let simmer, but don’t let it boil. Serve in heat-proof mugs.
