To ring in the New Year, we traveled up the coast to Solvang, “the Danish Capital of America” near Santa Barbara’s wine country.
We saw some of the usual touristy sights – windmills, horse-drawn carriages, the mermaid statue. We sampled ebelskivers and saw what little we could of the Old Mission Santa Ines…
Vintage Motorcycle Museum
But what we really went up to Solvang for was motorcycles. Vintage motorcycles. On a tip from a friend we went to the
Solvang Vintage Motorcycle Museum. And saw lots of sweet sights of another kind. If you haven’t been able to tell from
my posts on vintage airplanes, I love old vehicles. Rather testosterone-y for a gal, but never the less, I do. The smell, the rumble are all primal feels that I get in my core.
The museum contains a wide selection of vintage motorcycles, from just after the turn of the century to more modern classics. On my venture I saw BMWs, Indians, Moto Guzzis, Ducatis, Nortons, Triumphs, just to name a few. And all were in pristine condition.

Happy travels! And I hope you had a joyous New Years Eve!
Oh, I had forgotten this village… I was there about 15 years ago!!! It was fun to see it compare to real Holland!
Hope you had fun!!!!
My hubby would love to visit something like this. He is a motorcycle nut. Lovely horses too, love them!
How wonderful! Looks like you had a great time. I haven't been to Solvang in a few years, thanks for the lovely reminder of how great it is. We used to make abelskivers at the restaurant I worked at in chicago, I miss them. And those motorcycles are amazing!!
